CABIN COUNSELOR (PART-TIME)
LOCATION
Camp Skyhook at Clear Creek Outdoor Education Center (Located in the Angeles National Forest approximately 30 minutes from Pasadena/Glendale, CA)
DUTIES
-
Supervise LAUSD students during their visit to science camp in the mountains!
Camp Skyhook at Clear Creek OEC provides overnight science adventure outings for 5th grade students weekly throughout the school year -
Sleep in a student cabin both nights during shift for student supervision

Lead team building and mindfulness activities, games, crafts, songs, and skits;

Assist trail teachers on science hikes

Coordinate and oversee student meal times

Model and counsel students in appropriate behavior

Ensure the health and safety of students

Promote a positive team atmosphere

Assist with unloading loading of student luggage
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPECTATIONS
-
You MUST enjoy working with children (4th-12th grades) and have a sincere desire to make their science camp visit as exciting and memorable as possible

Minimum 18 years old and high school graduate or GED
-
Commit to working the entire school year (August 2021 – June 2022)

Able to pass FBI and DOJ background checks; willing to be TB tested
-
Willing to be certified in First Aid and CPR
-
Exp. working with children helpful (teaching, coaching, mentoring, etc.)

Able to supervise up to 20 students with minimal supervision
-
Able to go on moderate hikes (1 to 3 miles in length)

Consistently perform with a high level of responsibility and integrity

Access to consistent, reliable transportation

Program staff assume the responsibility of parents/caregivers in what is often a child's first experience away from home and family - they are leaders, friends, teachers, problem solvers, mediators, expectation upholders and, most importantly, positive role models for students
SHIFT & COMPENSATION
-
3-day/2-night weekly shifts available: Mon 10 a.m. to Wed 12:30 p.m. or Wed 11:30 a.m. to Fri 1 p.m.; various breaks throughout the shift

Counselors sleep in student cabins both nights (they essentially “live” on site for the 3-day shift)

Counselors are paid 24 hours each shift at $16.91 per hour (~$406 per shift)

This is a part-time temporary classified position; accrued sick days; no holiday or vacation pay
